John Burk is an outdoor writer, photographer, and historian from New England. He has published several regional books and guides, including Quabbin Reservoir: America through Time, New England's Natural Wonders: An Explorer's Guide, The Wildlife of New England, and Massachusetts Covered Bridges: Images of America. He is the editor of and a contributor to the Appalachian Mountain Club's Massachusetts Trail Guide and Best Day Hikes near Boston, and lead author of two editions of the Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust's hiking guide. He has also produced a self-published photo book, 'From the Valley to Wachusett: The Hidden Nature of Central Massachusetts, with a successful local retail history.

John has also contributed to publications such as Northern Woodlands, Natural New England, AMC Outdoors, Sanctuary (Massachusetts Audubon Society) North Quabbin Woods, The Guide to the Johnny Appleseed Trail, and Massachusetts Wildlife. His work experience includes 10 years as a historical researcher and archivist at the Harvard Forest, an ecological research station of the university in central Massachusetts.
