Kemps Ridley Turtle stranded on Cape Cod Bay beach

Kemps Ridley Turtle stranded on Cape Cod Bay beach

A cold-stunned Kemp's Ridley turtle washed up on a Cape Cod Bay beach in Truro, Massachusetts in November 2014. During this time a record number of more than 1200 sea turtles, mostly Kemp's Ridleys, were similarly stranded on Cape Cod beaches. This turtle was moved to a safe location on the beach, then taken to the Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary and New England Aquarium for treatment. The turtles were subsequently flown to aquariums and treatment centers in the South to be released in warm ocean waters.
